Maria Farooq

Maria Farooq is an Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan, specialising in Dispute Resolution. She is an accomplished international commercial arbitration lawyer with command over ICC and LCIA rules, and is also an IMI Certified Mediator, enabling her to navigate complex conflicts and business issues.

Maria has represented clients in domestic and international arbitrations, including successfully representing National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd. in an ICC arbitration against an Iranian corporation, winning an award of approximately US$4.5 million, and acting as a key member of the team that successfully represented a state-owned power transmission concern in an LCIA arbitration. She regularly appears before the High Courts of Pakistan and regulatory bodies, and has been appointed amicus curiae by the Lahore High Court. She also advises multinational corporations, international financial institutions and global telecommunications operators on corporate, fintech and employment matters.

Maria holds a B.A. LL.B. from Lahore University of Management Sciences (2012) and an LL.M. from the London School of Economics (2013). She is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (LUMS), teaching Legal Practice and Contractual Interpretation.

She has been recommended by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific for her experience in M&A and knowledge of telecom laws, and was recognised as the Gender & Diversity Champion (Female) for Punjab at the 1st Women in Law Awards 2021.
