Nadir Altaf

Nadir Altaf is a Partner based in the Islamabad office of RIAA Barker Gillette, specialising in Infrastructure Law. He focuses on project financing, energy, corporate and commercial law, regulatory matters, and dispute resolution, with particular expertise in the development of large hydropower, thermal, solar and wind power projects.

Nadir has acted on multi‑billion dollar investments in Pakistan's infrastructure and energy sector, negotiating and finalising project documents, EPC and O&M contracts for all technologies, including thermal and renewable energy. He represents local and foreign sponsors, lenders, independent power producers (IPPs), captive power producers (CPPs), bulk power consumers and public sector entities on matters relating to generation, transmission, distribution, wheeling and sale of electricity. He has also advised on the USAID Pakistan Power Distribution Improvement Program and represents clients in litigation and arbitration involving corporate, commercial and constitutional matters.

Nadir holds an LL.M. in Business and Trade Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2000) and an LL.B. from the University of Punjab (1993). He is an Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan and a member of the Punjab Bar Council, the High Court Bar Association and the Islamabad Bar Association.

He is recognised by Chambers Asia-Pacific and The Legal 500 for his expertise in energy and project finance, with clients describing him as "enthusiastic, passionate, devoted and hard‑working" and praising his command over generation licences and implementation agreements.
